Machine Learning for Precision Neuropsychiatry ML4PNP

I am a PhD student in the Department of Intelligent Systems at Tilburg University and a doctoral fellow in the IndiBrain program. Before starting my PhD, I completed a Master’s degree in Data Science at the University of Padua. For my Master’s research, I worked with neuroimaging data, using masking and fine-tuning strategies for LSTM models to predict Autism Spectrum Disorder. This work drew me towards neuroscience and questions where machine learning can help us understand the brain rather than simply make predictions. My current research asks how the brain changes across the lifespan and why these changes differ between individuals. I study this using machine learning and neuroimaging, with a particular focus on biologically constrained generative models that can infer individual developmental and aging trajectories from cross-sectional brain data. In the long term, I hope to use these methods to understand both healthy variation and changes associated with ocular and neurological damage.
